iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 plus have been launched now in Australia and these new smartphones have a lot in common like its previous siblings iPhone 7 and 7 plus. The display size, native resolution and camera lenses are all essentially identical to the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus. Like Samsung Android handsets it has a wireless charging and a sturdier glass back. Also video recording has the addition of 4K 60p recording and 1080p 240p slow-motion. There’s also a new Portrait Lighting mode which uses machine learning to light your face.
Both the iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 plus are powered by iOS 11 and CPU of Apple A11 Bionic chip with 64-bit architecture with memory storage of 64/256 GB. The iPhone 8 has 4.7 inch retina HD display and iPhone 8 plus comes with 5.5 inch retina HD display.
Both have Dual 12MP rear with optical image stabilisation, 7MP front cameras and are available in Silver, Gold and Space Grey in color. The outright cost of the iPhone 8 and 8 Plus varies depending on how much storage you want. Surprisingly, the prices are slightly better compared to the original iPhone 7’s RRP, although Apple has cut out one of the storage options this time around. iPhone 8, 64GB costs AU$1079 and 256GB costs AU$1329. The iPhone 8 plus 64GB is priced at AU$1229 and 256GB at AU $1479

Optus’ iPhone 8 pricing starts at $65 per month on a 24-month contrast, which nets you 1GB of data per month. With 16 GB data it will cost you $90 per month on a 24-month contrast which includes 9GB bonus data for the life of the plan and this offer ends on 26th October 2017. You also get unlimited standard talk and text and upto 300 international minutes. With more 40 GB of data will cost you $100 per month on a a 24-month contrast and includes 10 GB bonus data and offer ends on October 26th 2017. This offer also gets you unlimited standard national talk and text and up to 750 international minutes and unlimited international roaming talk and text, 1GB international roaming data
Also available is 100 GB data plan at AU$120 per month and the offer ends on 26th October 2017. This offer gets you unlimited standard national talk and text, Unlimited international minutes, Unlimited international roaming talk and text and 1.5 GB international roaming data.
The cheapest iPhone 8 Plus plan – which comes with the same inclusions – is a bit more expensive at $70 per month. This works out to a minimum total of $1560 and $1680 over 24 months, respectively. Also 16GB data costs AU$95, 40 GB at AU $105 and 100 GB at AU$120 per month and is valid till October 26th 2017.
The Optus 4G Plus network is available in all capital cities and hundreds of metro, regional and holiday towns with a compatible device and plan. Coverage varies by device. Check at optus.com.au/coverage.
Flex upgrade at $0 is also available to new and recontracting customers who lease the iPhone 8/8 Plus on any My Plan Flex, My Plan Business Flex or Business Lease plan between 15th Sep – 3rd Nov 2017. You will be able to upgrade for $0 after 12 months of signing up to this offer if you return the current device in good working order to Optus and get a new device on a new 24-month plan. If the current device is damaged, you’ll pay a damage fee. If you don’t return the current device within 14 days of your new contract, you’ll have to pay for the device at its fair market value. You are under no obligation to use Flex Upgrade.
